Atux̂ Forever Restoring Attuans' Freedom

While honoring the history and contributions of our Ancestors we work to support and bring perpetual peace and prosperity to the Saskinax̂, known as Attuans, an Indigenous Maritime Nation whose Ancestors inhabited Saskinam Tanamlan region since time immemorial.

We are stewards of the western and easternmost islands of the United States. These islands are called Anĝatux̂, Atux̂, Alaid, Anvayaax̂, Samiya. We are the only location in the United States where World War II took place. Unfortunately, our Indigenous group is left to clean up the disastrous mess that was left behind between two countries. It is extremely expensive to remediate WWII explosives and debris and requires specific technical expertise. We met with bomb experts this year and need your help to work through the regulations and remediation of the WWII trash to return this land to our people. They are unable to go out and remediate due to regulations and we have to find the ordnances for them to be able to assist us to remediate them. Our goal as an organization is to remove these ordnances so that we can safely access our traditional homeland without worrying about being blown up. We want to fish and harvest where our Ancestors used to. It is the war fought between the two countries whom are responsible for this environmental remediation, not us who were innocent victims of the war. It is not a priority for anyone to remediate our traditional homelands and we have to push for this change. It is an extreme environmental injustice for our group of people. Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard left abandoned buildings on our lands. It is deplorable how these islands have been militarized and treated as waste. Our dream is to have these islands as they once were before any military activity.



We could use your support! We hope to be able to hire an Environmental Scientist to help start the process. This scientist will focus on researching all of the United States government documents (National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Department of Defense). Once we have an understanding of what the United States governments actions were we will then be able to formulate an environmental plan with various levels. With your help we can advance the process to return this beautiful piece of land to it's rightful traditional stewards.
