Acerca de esta organización
In 2010, a group of 6-8 year olds in the "Brandywine Sprouts" chapter of the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots program was inspired to take action regarding single-use plastic bags which litter our communities and coasts, and harm both wildlife and farm animals. Single-use plastic bags blight our communities, enter watersheds where they are consumed by animals with tragic results, break down into microparticles putting toxins in our food chain, and contribute to climate change by feeding the oil and natural gas extraction and refining industries including fracking here in the U.S. The Brandywine Sprouts launched the BringYourOwnBag Delaware initiative to undertake educational outreach, awareness building, and policy change to secure legislation to address the issue of single-use plastic bag pollution. That founding mission was finally secured in 2019 with passed legislation making Delaware the fourth state in the U.S. to pass such legislation. In the meantime, however, BringYourOwnBag had grown into Plastic Free Delaware, Inc. (PFD) and has expanded its mission to address other single-use plastic pollution issues and pursue strategies for a zero waste future.
