Acerca de esta organización

Founded in 1996, GCI has fought to protect and restore Glen Canyon, and reverse the decline of the Grand Canyon's fragile ecosystem. In 1963, Glen Canyon Dam backed up the Colorado River to create Lake Powell reservoir, drowning what many consider "America's Lost National Park." Over the past 25 years, climate change and over-consumption have caused the reservoir's levels to plummet, allowing the reemergence of native ecosystems, as well as cultural and recreational resources.

For nearly three decades, GCI has worked tirelessly to advocate for policy that would allow the full restoration of Glen Canyon and Grand Canyon, and facilitate scientific research proving that the canyon is worth saving. Our work has shifted the conversation of Colorado River policy, making Glen Canyon's restoration a topic of national conversation. Our research has driven the dialogue around the legal framework, economics, and ecological benefits of a restored Glen Canyon.

In the midst of the Colorado River's water management crisis, Glen Canyon stands as a beacon of hope, presenting the opportunity to protect and restore one of the planet's most stunning landscapes.
