Grace Klein Community Inc

Did you know 40% of the food in the United States is thrown away every year, while 1 in 4 children in Alabama are food insecure?

Through our initiative FeedBHM, Grace Klein Community (GKC) rescues good food from restaurants, grocery stores, wholesales, and events to redistribute to individuals and families in need. In 2025, GKC feed over 750,000 unique individuals through rescuing 3.7 million pounds of food. We aim to feed 950,000 unique individuals through rescuing 4.625 million pounds of food in 2026.

According to Refed and the US EPA, food waste in the United States harms our shared environment and produces:

- 3.5% of all US greenhouse emissions

- 15.5% of US freshwater use

- 16% of cropland use

- 24% of landfill inputs

At GKC, sustainability is an opportunity close to our hearts and essential to our mission. We believe all our world and all resources are from the Lord and our job is to steward them wisely. We choose to inspire resourcefulness within ourselves, our organization, in Birmingham, and the world. Our prayer is for our hearts to become more generous with the Lord’s provision, knowing nothing in this world is ours. Our staff embraces sustainability everyday as we know resourcefulness affects our lives, our children’s lives, and all future generations.
