Beyond Plastics

A nonprofit organization

Launched in 2019 by former EPA regional administrator, Judith Enck, Beyond Plastics is a nationwide project based at Bennington College in Bennington, VT. We pair the wisdom and experience of environmental policy experts with the energy and creativity of grassroots advocates to build a vibrant and effective movement to end plastic pollution. Our mission is to end plastic pollution everywhere.

Beyond Plastics envisions a world free of plastic pollution, where reusable systems and sustainable materials replace the throw-away culture promoted by the chemical, plastics, and fossil fuel industries. Because individual actions taken by concerned citizens have a limited impact, our approach is rooted in working for systemic change. We actively support public policies that prioritize alternatives to plastics, building healthy economies focused on reducing waste and creating systems of reuse and refill. Plastic pollution is a growing global environmental crisis that disproportionately burdens people of color around the world. We stand in solidarity with these communities and seek to find respectful and productive ways to lend our assistance in the struggle to end plastic pollution and environmental racism.
