$100,000 Goal

Save the Scenic Santa Ritas (SSSR) has a 30-year legacy of success employing grassroots activism, technical experts, political pressure, and legal challenges to oppose open-pit mining in the Santa Rita Mountains in Pima County, Arizona.

The latest and largest threat to the range and to Southern Arizona’s water supply is Toronto-based Hudbay Minerals’ proposed Copper World project. The mining complex threatens to deplete precious groundwater in the Santa Cruz River watershed, pollute what limited surface water remains in the region, and create a toxic pit lake that would evaporate groundwater from the Cienega Creek watershed forever.

Our primary goal is to prevent Hudbay from developing Copper World to prevent the permanent destruction of the Santa Ritas and the aquifers of greater Tucson. By donating today, you are joining the fight to protect the mountains for generations to come.
