Through the support of Campus Climate Network (CCN), I participated in a research project spanning across the United States to uncover the implicit and direct ties between our universities and the fossil fuel industry. I identified over $2 MILLION in funding for UC Davis programs and scholarships coming from Chevron alone as a tactic for career recruitment. As my peers and I dug deeper, we increasingly realized how unaware we were of the ways that the fossil fuel industry was using to normalize its continued role in our society, despite all the harm they cause to people and ecosystems around the world.
I spent the rest of my last year at UC Davis sharing our research findings at school events, base-building and bringing more students into the cause, meeting with allied faculty members, and getting coached by trainers at CCN. Though I graduated, the work has just begun in Davis, and is continuing in other schools across the country. Your donation helps provide students with the resources and skills to be able to lead successful campaigns in their universities, with effects that ripple out into the rest of our society. Many of the students themselves will go on to become lifelong change-makers for social and environmental causes, including myself!
As of right now, my work with CCN continues! I serve on the financial and operations committee to help with our non-profits budgeting and fundraising. In fact, I organized this EarthGives fundraiser! For fall 2026, I will be also be a research coordinator for a new cohort of students, providing mentorship to other students leading investigations to undermine the influence of the fossil fuel industry at their schools.
Thanks for reading, and I sincerely hope you'll consider donating!
