Southeast Alaska Indigenous Transboundary Commission

About this Organization

We are a Commission formed by 14 Federally recognized Tribal governments located in Southeast Alaska. We have stewarded these lands since time immemorial. Our clan crests and grandfathers' names are on these rivers. These rivers support the species, ecosystem and genetic biodiversity of the last intact temperate rainforest left on Earth. The 5 species of salmon they provide return the nutrients lost by the rain forest back from the ocean. Our communities thrive and gather over 80% of all the foods eaten from the waters and forest of this land. "When the tide goes out, the table is set."

Over a dozen large mines-some of the largest in the world -are being developed upstream in British Columbia without our consent. BC admits that our Tribes and citizens face potential harm will be We have presented at the IUCN World Congress. We have an active investigation occurring at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights over the lack of consultation on these projects.
