Earth Gives: what is measured is realized.

The most valuable thing in life comes from the strength of our connection.

While Earth Gives Day offers a platform for investment in critical work being done by nonprofit teams, the connections built between donors/teams, volunteers/organizations, you/others, nonprofits/Earth Gives and so on is what creates the change.

We seek to measure connections through volunteer hours committed, behavior and actions changes you embrace and inspire, your generosity here, the work on the ground by organizations, stories told that inspire, and so much more.

How are you, as an earth giver, inspired to change the way you shop, vote, use your voice, shift your own personal carbon impact, consider communities most impacted by the changes across the globe, and the new community connections you make here and elsewhere?

What might be on your measurement list?

    • Did you walk away with a new understanding of "reuse" in your daily habits?
    • Are you cleaning up hiking trails and parks when you see trash left behind?
    • How are you leaving a trail of generosity?
    • Did you find out how a candidate running in your local council race might vote on environmental issues?
    • Are you getting the family to volunteer to plant trees in your community?
    • Are you pushing beyond Meatless Mondays to pivot to plant-based eating?
    • Are you bringing along your own mug, utensil kid or other ways to reduce plastic use?
    • Did you learn about the impact of moving your money? Better yet - inspire a systems change in your own state?

If you have ideas, please share at connect@earthgives.org.

  • Sustainability Insights

Knowledge and action go hand in hand. And it all starts with you.

Here are a few resources that can help you continue to engage beyond the generosity of a donation, and beyond the insights the organizations you invested in might have offered. With this knowledge, we hope to inspire you to lead a more sustainable life and help others do the same. Enjoy the links to groups and ideas to support your earth giving journey.

Earth Gives has been a proud supporter of Seth Godin's new project: https://thecarbonalmanac.org/ Through a global community, he catalyzed volunteers to develop amazing resources rich with systems change ideas and action steps. Our founder, Rhonda Bannard, has been thrilled to help get the word out and share the book with youth climate action teams, leading voices on science and climate at SXSW2023, and elsewhere. The almanac is a great primer on a variety of issues and allows you to be a quick study on all things climate action. Please pick up a book at your local bookstore. It's not too late.

  • Sustainable Swag

As part of Earth Gives, we want to introduce earth-friendly organic, U.S. or hyper-locally and BIPOC made, low-impact products to inspire more thoughtful reuse, repurposed, and sustainably made options to live life with purpose.

So if that's what you produce, or upcycle, partner with us! We're seeking businesses who will support the production of Earth Gives sustainable swag that nonprofits and donors can wear proudly. We want to model sustainable living through daily behavior practices and help generate capacity-building revenue for Earth Gives.

    A Few Sustainable Swag Ideas

    • Apparel (T-shirts, Sweatshirts, Socks)
    • Tote Bags, Reusable Bags
    • Caps/Hats (Winter/Summer)
    • Sustainable Swag Gift Box: steel straw, bamboo toilet paper, thermos, healthy treats, reuse mugs or canteen

  • Every Day Champions

    Celebrating "Essential Workers"

Those on the front lines, fire lines, and voting lines. Those adding to the tree lines, retreiving left behind fishing lines, and setting renewable electic lines.

We celebrate the volunteers who have committed innumerable hours to pick up the trash dumped on the beach, in the oceans and along our hiking trails. Every day there are volunteer-led nonprofits, volunteer boards, employees that wear all the hats, and even those that are part of a larger team that go beyond the 9-5 because their heart is all in for all of us.

If you're here as a donor or are climate curious, we know that you can do great good by amplifying the climate and environmental champions you find here on your own social platforms, and bring along others. Let your friends and family know what you did, donated, learned and invite them to join you.

Earth Gives also celebrates our own champions through the George Basch Earth Champion Award.

In 2021, Earth Gives honored George Basch, one of our inaugural board members, with the et/earth-champion-award" label="" type="url" target="_blank" href="https://www.earthgives.net/earth-champion-award" data-runtime-url="https://www.earthgives.net/earth-champion-award">George Basch Earth Champion Award. George led a life filled with exceptional dedication to the planet and a lifetime of exploration, championing a more sustainable world. He helped recruit Western Environmental Law Center, the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG), and The Explorer's Club, where he was honored for his exploration and service.

In February 2024, George was killed tragically in a car accident. We are devestated at his loss. And we continue to do the work here at Earth Gives knowing how much care and awe he had for our planet.

Earth Gives honored David Lawlor, then with the Western Environmental Law Center, as the 2022 George Basch Earth Champion Award, and Casey Bartrem, PhD, of Terragraphics International Foundation with the 2023 honor. Both were early to support Earth Gives, to invite others to participate, to share their expertise with other nonprofits, and say yes every time they were asked to help this start up effort gain traction.
