Save the Yellowstone Grizzly

About this Organization

Save the Yellowstone Grizzly (STYG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting one of America's most iconic species. We work to maintain the grizzly's status as a federally listed threatened species, promote the use of climate change science in wildlife management, facilitate habitat connectivity, and bring modern science to outdated state and federal bear policies. We also collaborate on educational initiatives that create bear-friendly communities - always guided by the principle that Indigenous wisdom should lead the way in shaping our collective relationship with the grizzly and its homelands.

Founded in 2016 in response to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service efforts to strip protections from Yellowstone grizzlies, STYG played a central role in the landmark 2018 federal court victory that restored Endangered Species Act protections to the bears. Since then, we have continued to fight delisting efforts, oppose trophy hunting, and defend critical grizzly habitat across the Northern Rockies.

Our storytelling has reached thousands through two acclaimed documentary films narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges, with original scores by Bill Payne of Little Feat.
