Wildlife Center of Virginia

About this Organization

Founded in 1982, the Wildlife Center of Virginia is a teaching hospital for wildlife medicine and research. We have treated more than 100,000 wild patients from 200+ native species. Lessons from these cases have advanced veterinary science, informed conservation policy, and increased public understanding.

Care & Rehabilitation
Each year we treat thousands of animals from across Virginia, many needing surgery or critical care. We commonly see victims of vehicle collisions, pesticide or lead exposure, and animals orphaned or separated from parents.

Training
We provide hands-on training for veterinarians, technicians, rehabilitators, and educators. Through the Call of the Wild conference and our online Wildlife Care Academy, professionals worldwide share best practices.

Public Education
Our programs reach millions via online classroom visits, tours, events, and live chats. Streaming Critter Cams with moderated discussion let viewers observe bear cubs, hawks, owls, and more.

Research & Policy
As a frontline facility, we contribute to research and public policy on lead, pesticides, outdoor pet impacts, and management of bear and deer populations.
